Apple has officially released their 2014 Environmental Responsibility Report, and in it they’ve outlined the changes they’ve made to lessen their impact on the planet.
The amount of effort that Apple is putting into their goals is certainly worth pointing out. For instance, within the United States, Apple is now powering 145 of its physical retail locations with 100% renewable energy. In Australia, every single one of the company’s retail locations is now powered by 100 percent renewable energy. Apple also points out that their clean power investments have led to a 31 percent decrease in the company’s carbon footprint from 2011 to 2013 — despite the fact Apple says their overall consumption increased a total of 44% in the same period of time.
From the report:
“Second, while focusing on our climate data, we decided to recalculate our 2012 emissions using our newest methodology — the same model we used to calculate our 2013 numbers. The new analysis shows that our carbon footprint actually shrank by 3 percent from 2012 to 2013. This marked the first time we’ve seen a year-over-year decline since we began tracking the numbers in 2009. While we’re excited about this progress, we know our work is far from done.“You can check out the full report through the source link below.
