Launched earlier in 2014, Apple’s CarPlay has already seen a big adoption rate from auto manufacturers, with the list of partners still growing. That support will lead Apple into an almost ridiculous amount of vehicles by 2019, a new report suggests.
However, that closed ecosystem is poised to work in favor for Apple, because of the popularity of the iPhone. With so many (millions of) people buying the iPhone, and so many more expected to pick up the iPhone 6 later this year, manufacturers would be missing on that compatibility with their cars and customer’s smartphones. The result? ABI Research posits that Apple could see CarPlay installed in more than 24 million calls by 2019.
From the report:
“Many believe Apple is creating further fragmentations and a ripple effect in the industry by not being open. However, love it or hate it, with Apple on the scene it certainly draws greater attention to in-car apps and now with the Android Auto standard on the scene both will certainly drive adoption of in-car apps.“Do you like the idea of CarPlay?
