Vimeo updates Apple TV app, completely transforms the experience, offers better video discovery and more

A new software update is usually always a welcomed sight, especially when it upgrades visuals and functionality. On July 9, Vimeo officially announced a brand new update to their Apple TV app, changing quite a bit for those who use the service.

With the update, Vimeo is hoping to not only make the application more attractive to look at while you’re using, but also to make it easier to use, especially when it comes to finding new content to watch. Vimeo says that with the new app’s design, it will take you fewer clicks to get to where you want to go and what you want to watch, while also improving video discovery to find what you want faster. Vimeo is also launching their “Staff Favorites” section, which is a monthly feature that will highlight new content that the Vimeo staff believes you should check out:

Don’t have time to watch every single Staff Pick? Our monthly Staff Favorites Albums highlight the best of the best. We’ve also added the winners of our Vimeo Weekend Challenges and a bunch of curated Channels so you can watch tons of amazing videos right away. (Shoutout to our Roku, Xbox, and Fire people: these featured Channels are available to you, too.)“

Vimeo On Demand is getting a bigger focus as well, as it continues to add titles to the service. It’s now up to 10 thousand titles, and growing, so being able to sift through that expanding library is important. So is being able to set up movies to watch, without having to go through the list again to find them:

Starting now, browse thousands of Vimeo On Demand trailers from the unrelenting comfort of your couch. When you find a title that grabs your interest, add it to your Watch Later queue and purchase it when you’re ready. Any titles you’ve purchased will appear in Watch Later and under My Videos.“

And here are some of the new features that Vimeo added for good measure:

Featured Home page that highlights four user channels or albums, along with 20 curated channels.

New Video Detail pages including background images, additional clip metadata such as audience ratings, reviews, extra features, and more content from creators.

VOD Trailers for new feature films and series are available for preview the app.

The update should be available now, and rolling out to Apple TVs.
