Alleged iPhone 6 backlight panel surfaces

The iPhone 6 physical mockups, digital mockups, videos, and concept art have been a dime a dozen lately, but here’s something new: a supposed backlight panel for the rumored 4.7-inch iPhone, straight from Chinese social network Weibo. French site Nowhereelse.fr noticed these photos first and, while they don’t seem to offer any new information, it can’t hurt to have one more iPhone 6 leak, can it?

As you can see in the above photo, the overall design of the two backlight components do appear to be similar, with black edges going around and a taller edge on top for embedded components. But also worth noting is that the flex connector at the top has been relocated to the left, and the pins on it have been redesigned. This of course doesn’t mean that these aren’t legitimate; it would make sense that Apple nee dot make modifications like this when moving to a new form-factor.

These images, while not all too valuable, contribute to existing rumors stating that Apple will be moving to thinner space-saving components with the iPhone 6, and the backlight might be one of them. The thickness (or should I say thinness) of the iPhone 6 is rumored to be between 6 and 7mm thick, which is notably less than the current iPhone 5s 7.6mm thickness. Apple will have to take advantage of new advancements in each component to be able to achieve this.
As we’ve mentioned countless times already, the next generation iPhone is expected to be announced with a 4.7-inch display (and that’s the size of the above components), but a second device is expected later in the year — launching with a display of 5.5-inches.
