A new kind of accessory has surfaced, and as many new accessory categories do, it first appeared in the form of a Kickstarter campaign. The Legion Meter is an accessory that serves to make sure your devices are receiving every ounce of energy they can from a variety of power sources, and even features an OLED screen to show you the difference.
In case you didn’t know, your device (no matter which one it is — iPhone, iPad, or others) is rarely receiving its full charge potential. When you plug an iPad into the front of a PC, very often you’ll find that it won’t even charge at all. This device touts the ability to charge your device up to 92% faster, and also doubles as a multimeter, giving you the watts and amps that are being delivered to your device, the voltage of the USB port.
According to the Legion Meter Kickstarter page:
Legion Meter is a device that can safely accelerate your smartphone/tablet’s charging speed up to 92%. It also features a built-in multimeter for displaying voltage, current, power, and milliwatt hours on the integrated OLED display. Legion Meter installs in seconds and is fully plug and play.
Additionally, this handy device from technology company PLX offers a resettable milliwatt-hours counter, which allows you to diagnose the health of your battery with real, raw numbers. The batteries within our phones are advtertised at certain mAh capacities, and the Legion Meter lets you watch as power streams into your device and counts it in mWh, allowing you to compare the two numbers to determine your battery’s true capacity.

One of the most enticing features of this device, though is the PLX Charge Accelerator circuit. You can use the Legion Meter to charge your device at full-speed by choosing either Apple or Android mode, and the meter will signal to your device to intake the maximum amount of charge possible. For example, when plugged into a standard PC or laptop USB port, the Legion Meter allows an iPhone 5 to charge at 4.5 Watts, rather than 2.6, resulting in a maximum gain of 73%.

The campaign has long passed its initial funding goal, now sitting at around $230,000 — notably more than the campaign’s initial hope of $10,000. If you want a Legion Meter, you’re going to have to pitch a minimum of $49.
Would this device be useful for you?
