United Airlines updated
its iOS app
with support for a new in-flight entertainment service that’ll help
travelers pass time on their flights. The service is available for iPad
and iPhone owners and offers up to 150 movies and 200 TV shows.
The updated version of the Unite app is available now in the
iOS App Store, and the service will be gradually rolled out to United
Airlines’ fleet of planes. Currently, it is only available on select
flights that have the necessary hardware and requires customers to
connect to the in-flight WiFi service offered by United. The full
change-log for version 2.0.13 of the app includes the following:
- Entertainment, personalized
- United’s new personal device entertainment service will be available on select aircraft.
- United app version 2.0.13 adds the required software to browse and
watch select movies and TV shows on your mobile device when connected to
the “United_Wi-Fi” network.
- To see if your flight offers personal device entertainment, go to
the Inflight Amenities tab on the united.com Flight Status &
Information page, or check the Amenities section of the Flight Status
Details screen in the United app within 24 hours of your flight
departure. (Amenities are subject to change until the time of
departure.)
Travelers can check to see if their flight is supported on the flight
information page for their flight or in the United app. Though mobile
support is limited to the iPad and iPhone, the new entertainment options
are available for notebook users via a browser plugin.
