Apple has just announced an exchange program for the 5W European USB Power Adapter, as they’ve found that in some rare cases they may overheat and pose safety risk.
Customer safety is always Apple’s top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to exchange every affected power adapter for a new, redesigned adapter, free of charge. We encourage customers to exchange any affected adapter for a new one as soon as possible using the exchange process below.Users can also identify if they’ve the faulty adapter by looking at the label between the prongs on their adapter. The affected adapter features Model A1300 and the letters “CE” in solid gray.
Apple has warned that users with the affected adapters should discontinue using it, and exchange it for a new one for free.
Users can get a free replacement by taking your affected adapter to an Apple Retail Store or a participating Apple Authorized Service Provider. They will also need to take their iPhone with you as Apple needs it verify their iPhone’s serial number as part of the exchange process.
The affected adapters came with iOS devices that were shipped in the following countries:
Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, VietnamIt is kind of ironic, as Apple had launched a “USB Power Adapter Takeback Program” last year offering customers Apple-branded USB power adapter at a special price of $10 when they turn in at least one third-party power adapter after the death of a Chinese woman and controversy over the safety of counterfeit power adapters.
