Siri, one of the most prominent features of the iPhone 4S has created a buzz that seems it simply wont end. In fact Siri will start a new revolution in the mobile technology which is being lead by Apple and it will take over many features/apps out in the market, simply by making it easier to “talk to a phone” rather than use the phone. One of these features that will soon come in the way of Siri is sports updates.
Siri understands words by breaking them down in to speech tokens which it sends to Apple servers who submit a response. Most of these speech tokens are single words but in some exception cases it recognizes more then one, such as a city’s sports team.
While testing out his jailbroken app, Sirisports. Evan coleman, an iOS jailbreak developer noticed these “exception” speech tokens and to get results for his app, he requested ESPN’s APIs.
The request was denied mentioning “access for jailbroken apps isn’t something we are willing to support” and that “ESPN works closely with Apple on many fonts”.
Although it is not a straight forward point towards Siri getting sports updates from ESPN. But, ESPN is closely tied with Apple; ESPN is owned by ABC which also owns Disney, which is of course heavily involved with Apple.
It is definitely an indication that somewhere in the near future, Apple will get sports updates from ESPN.
