RIM officially releases the Blackberry Z10 at the end of the month, but if you want a close look at how this makes-it-or-break-it handset from RIM stacks up against the iPhone 5, German website Telekom-Presse has a side-by-side video comparison of the two devices.
Watching the video all the way through, I’d say that RIM has put in many of the features we’d expect in a “modern” smart phone, plus a few more. Given the huge footprint RIM has in the business world the business and personal divide built into the OS is very clever. You need a password to switch to business (I wonder if the same is true for personal) and that side of the phone would be controlled by a company’s BES server.
It isn’t hyperbole that RIM needs to knock it out of the park with the Blackberry 10. Once a leader, now barely a tag-along follower, RIM needs this device and new OS to be a success. I don’t think they need to sell as many devices as Samsung or Apple (or even LG), but they need positive reviews, some big corporate deployments, and some solid consumer uptake or it will be the Playbook all over again (big hopes, poor delivery).
We’ll know in a couple weeks what RIM’s fate will be.
