Apple’s spaceship campus outlined as Campus 2 construction progresses

campus-2-ringApple last year started demolition at the site of its second Cupertino campus, tearing down the existing buildings in order to make way for its own complex. Now that the existing structures have been removed, work on preparing the site for future buildings has now begun The next phase of construction is vividly shown in the above aerial photograph taken by KCBS news and traffic reporter Ron Cervi.
The photograph shows the distinct outlines of the company’s circular spaceship campus, giving us a hint at the size and location of the structure. Apple received approval last November for the new building, which will occupy 2.8 million square feet and accommodate 2,400 cars in an underground parking garage. It will feature a circular, all-glass architecture that was designed by world-famous architect Norman Foster.
This second Cupertino campus is located near Apple’s company headquarters at 1 Infinite Loop and formerly housed Hewlett Packard’s Pruneridge Campus. Besides the spaceship campus, the site also will include a 120,000 square foot auditorium and a 100,000 square foot fitness center for Apple employees. Vegetation will dot the landscape in a design that’ll bring some of “California back to Cupertino.”
The first phase of construction of Apple’s Campus 2 is expected to be completed by 2016.
